The student energy reduction competition, with 9 teams competing for 10 weeks. The winner will be determined by the team with the largest average energy reduction from their baseline usage. This year the competition will run from March 29 to April 26, and the winner will be announced on Earth Day (April 26). The dorm (or team of dorms) that reduces its electricity use by the highest percentage will win a $10 iTunes gift certificate for every person in that dorm.

Additionally, WC is competing in Recyclemania this year against 400 other colleges around the country! Check on our results at recyclemaniacs.org.
Faculty and staff also have the opportunity to compete to reduce their energy consumption. Because energy usage is so different around campus, the competition will be based on percentage reduction for each building, but effort will be taken into consideration as well! Be on the look-out for our eco-spies and their clipboards, and make sure to impress them when they come by! The competition will run from March 29 to April 26, and each building will compete for a basket of fresh local produce for each faculty or staff member in the building.
Finally, faculty, staff, and students have the opportunity to compete against one another to come up with the best innovative idea for sustainability on campus. The winner will be determined by a small judicial committee, and all ideas will be recognized on Earth Day and online. The most innovative idea submitted by a person or team will win a $250 cash prize! Like last year, submit pictures of innovative conservation practices throughout the semester to be featured on the College homepage.
The due date for ideas for this year's George Gets Ingenious is Monday, April 21! Submit ideas to tholste2@washcoll.edu
